| It was 1989, and Robert, Rob and I were on our
first trip ever driving all the way to Cabo San Lucas. We had spent
1 1/2 days of traveling through mostly dry desert, with an occasional town
popping up here and there. After a morning at the oasis town of Mulege,
we were winding through the mountains south heading towards Loreto.
Suddenly, through a break in the hills, I saw something.
"Wow, did you guys see that?!?!" "What?" they both exclaimed. After a couple of seconds, the view came up again. What I had seen, was the incredible light blue/green water of Playa Santispac, the first in a series of wonderful beaches found along the gorgeous Bahia de Concepcion. The bay stretches about 25 miles in length, although the more user-friendly beaches are in the northern section of the bay. Most of these beaches have palapas to park your vehicle under, as you take to the ocean. Camping is permitted, although I believe there is a small fee charged now (about $5-10, I seem to recall)? If you are traveling in this area in Baja, it is definitely worth the time to see this wonderful bay, one of the best and most glorious places in all Baja. |
