Loreto

Loreto is a mystery to most tourism experts.  It has everything a tourist needs -- an international airport, excellent fishing, fine hotels and beautiful beaches just south of town.  However, Loreto has resisted the tourist-type town temptation for years.  The Mexican government had established Loreto as the next Cancun at one point, but the development was slow and appears abandoned.
Whether or not Loreto eventually turns into the next Cabo San Lucas remains to be seen.  But for now, Loreto is a very nice, sleepy town with wonderful sunrises in the morning, lovely nights, and generally beautiful scenery throughout the entire region.  Loreto is also home to the oldest mission in all of the Californias (both Baja and the U. S. state of California). The mission dates back to 1697.
